When you ride the bus and you’re paying cash, it’s important to have the exact amount. Our drivers cannot make change.
CharlieCards
CharlieCards are being discontinued.
BRTA is expected to remain fare-free through June 2027. Please check back soon for additional information regarding the return of existing CharlieCards and any upcoming changes to the fare program.

Reduced Fares
Reduced fares are available to some riders including:
- People ages 60 and older
- Persons with a valid Medicare card
- People with disabilities who have a valid Massachusetts Access Pass
Free Rides
Free rides are available to some riders including:
- Personal Care Attendants (PCA) who are accompanying BRTA-certified persons with disabilities who have obtained a BRTA-issued ID that specifies a need for a PCA.
- Children, age five and under, ride free with an adult. Limit two children per adult.
Everyone rides Free on their birthday. Proof required.
Fare Policy
The BRTA Advisory Board voted at the September 24, 2020 Board Meeting to approve the following Fare Policy as required by the Bilateral MOU:
The BRTA will review the collection of fares periodically and make recommendations to the Advisory Board on any changes to the current fare structure for their consideration.
